Frequently Asked Questions
1. How to assemble the purchased bamboo bed?
Beds bought from us are delivered to the buyer in a package and usually consist of 4-5 parts, depending on the bed. The bed frame is easy to assemble. The bed is assembled using bolt connections. All bed parts are numbered and no drawings are required to assemble the bed.
2. Do I need a base frame under the mattress of the bed?
Yes, you always need a base frame. Depending on the size of the desired bed, you need either one or two base frames (for example, 140x200 beds require one base frame of 140x200. 160x200 beds need two base frames of 80x200). If you have bought a bed made of round bamboo (e.g. Palawan, Misool), the frames must be attached to each other with cross supports using wood screws. There are support stands under the cross supports to support the mattress (see picture below). The advantage of the base frame is that the mattress is fully supported by the base frame. Thanks to this, the bed frame is not affected by the weight of the mattress, which ensures good stability for the bed. Slat spacing should be between 25 to 65 mm.
3. Do bamboo beds squeak?
Since all our bed frames are designed “separately” from the mattresses, the mattress doesn't come into direct contact with the frame. Therefore, the weight of the person sleeping in the bed does not affect the bamboo frame and excludes unpleasant squeaking.
4. Has bamboo furniture been chemically treated?
No. No chemicals have been used in the manufacture of our furniture. A specific process is used where bamboo straws are dried in special ovens, ensuring a result where there is no need for chemical treatment of the material. In addition, this kind of processing also prevents cracking of the material.
5. How to care for bamboo furniture?
It is good to “moisturize” bamboo furniture from time to time. It's good to use a regular damp cloth. Furniture can also be polished with a furniture polish containing beeswax.
6. Are your products new?
Yes, all products sold in Bambusekeskus are new and come with a two year manufacturer’s warranty.
7. Can bamboo furniture crack?
Although the bamboo is dried in special ovens, so that furniture is suitable for European climate, small micro-cracks that occur over time can not be ruled out, especially if the humidity in the room is fluctuating. It is advisable to monitor that the humidity in the room does not fall below 45%.
8. What is crushed bamboo veneer?
Here is a brief brief overview of how crushed bamboo veneer is made. The first step in peeling bamboo is to crush the nodes on the bamboo strain using an ax.
Then, the bamboo strain is cut in half lengthwise with a special tool, penetrating once again all the nodes. When all the nodes have been penetrated, it is possible to roll the strain out.
This results in a uniform bamboo slab. Next, the white part of the content is removed, which is often a nesting place for insects. The resulting panels are then soaked in a mixture of water and non-toxic solvent to create lasting protection against mold and insects. Finally, the panels are dried for 1-2 months, and then the panels are ready to be glued onto wood veneer.
Thanks to this technique, bamboo can be used to produce square and horizontal elements for furniture. Wood veneer is used as the base. This technology makes it possible to produce so-called standard furniture from bamboo while also retaining the special features of bamboo.
Yes. Cross supports can be installed at two depths - 15 cm and 18 cm. For example, if the base frame of the bed is 7 cm thick and the mattress is 20 cm thick, it is possible to raise the mattress either 12 cm or 15 cm above the edge of the bed.
All quality mattresses sold in Estonia are suitable for bamboo beds. We recommend the base frame Rubin, which is manufactured in Germany and comes in different´sizes.
